It’s in the water! Babies, Babies and more Babies
Is it just me or is this the year for babies? I have three nieces and a girlfriend who are all due within the next few months. Yesterday I went to the baby shower for one of my nieces and low and behold at least five of the guests were pregnant as well. My other niece had her baby shower at the end of April and there were probably three guests that were pregnant and another two with newborns, it was crazy. It is like the old saying “it’s in the water” and I think that may actually hold some truth.
Lucky for all the current generation of prego’s is the cell phone and the ability to capture everything, everywhere and at anytime. When I was pregnant with my first there were no cell phones at least not like they are today. We had old school cameras and the ever cool disposable cameras. We were lucky if we had one with us to capture a moment let alone a good one. One tip I have is to have a few disposable cameras or Polaroid cameras at your baby shower for people to take random shots. Kids especially love this and when you develop the film you are sure to get some funny and wonderful pictures. My niece had the Polaroid cameras at her wedding and the kids had so much fun and they seriously took some really cute and unforgettable pictures. There is just something about taking a picture and it printing out right away that is exciting.
Prenatal vitamins are a must when you are pregnant and especially if you have severe morning sickness as your body will deplete of the essential vitamins faster from vomiting and eating less. I personally like the SmartyPants Women’s Vitamins for general use so I recommended the Organic Prenatal Vitamin to my girlfriend and she loves them.
All three times I was pregnant I was super nauseous and the only thing that helped me was ginger candy. Some people do not like ginger candy and prefer the Preggie Pops or the Pregnancy Tea. I think it really depends on the person and you have to try a few things to see what works. 7-up and saltine crackers work wonders as well and are always a go to for nausea in my family.
With all the nausea and possible vomiting you will undoubtably be wondering how in the world you keep gaining weight and why you have those little pink lines on your thighs and breasts. Those my friend are your warrior badges also known as stretch marks. I know, I know that is an evil word. There really is no way to avoid them and most woman get them even if they don’t gain very much weight during their pregnancy. Although you cannot prevent them you can definitely keep them to a minimum and help your skin stretch without tearing and scarring. There are a lot of creams to help with the stretch marks but what I did during all three pregnancies was to pat pure vitamin e oil onto all the areas and then rub in a good lotion on top. I gained a lot of weight with my first pregnancy and I will tell you that I have very minimal stretch marks and I know it is because I did this. I really believe keeping the skin supple and soft increases the elasticity and allows the skin to stretch nicely.
The most fun a woman has during pregnancy is her baby shower and the Amazon Baby Registry makes it so easy for everyone to purchase the gifts that you want and need for your new bundle of joy. From bottles and blankets to car seats and playpens (I bought this for one of my nieces) Amazon has it all and they will deliver directly to the mother to be or to the purchasers home. They also have everything mom will need postpartum including sitz bath, delivery underwear with ice packs, breast pads and breast pumps and so much more.
No matter if this is your first or fifth pregnancy, it is a very special and exciting time in your life. Make sure you slow down and enjoy every moment, savoring every flutter and kick and don’t forget to take care of yourself by getting a lot of rest and of course drinking plenty of water. Life is never going to be the same again 🙂
